The charity we are supporting is the Daisy Chain Project based in Norton, Stockton-on-Tees on a 5.5-acre farm.
Why have we decided to get involved? At Silk, we take our social responsibilities seriously and support a different charity every year. This year, we wanted to support a grassroots children’s charity.
Daisy Chain is a Teesside-based charity that operates in the region where many of our clients we represent live since we have offices in both North Yorkshire and Newcastle The charity was founded in 2003 and offers therapeutic animal therapy and specialist provisions to neurodiverse individuals and support for their families.
Since opening they have offered support to over 5,000 families.
During 2022/23 Daisy Chain:
• supported over 5,000 families
• facilitated 3 overnight residentials
• received 1,350 referrals to their Family Support Service
• increased capacity for adult clubs and services by 74%
• raised over £500,000 in unclaimed benefits for autistic adults
• prevented homelessness for 7 autistic adults
Daisy Chain also offers a Family Support Service which can be accessed by children, young people and their families who display traits associated with or have a diagnosis of a neurodevelopmental condition such as autism, ADHD and FASD.
Why did we choose Daisy Chain?
We were impressed with the tremendous level of support Daisy Chain provides to children and young adults with neurodevelopmental conditions in the area and the importance they place on providing them with opportunities in the future. From seeing the state-of-the-art facilities first-hand and how Daisy Chain has developed over the last 20 years, we were very keen to support their work.
The Team at Daisy Chain work tirelessly to ensure that every child or adult in their service gets the support they are required, and the results are outstanding. However, this requires continual funding and investment.
Who at Silk will be involved?
The whole of the team at Silk Family Law will be actively supporting Daisy Chain, led by our Charity Committee Matthew Miles, senior associate, Hannah Craven, solicitor and Elliot Anderson, legal assistant.
The Charity Committee meets each month to discuss how Silk can support Daisy Chain, participate in upcoming events, and come up with new and exciting fundraising ideas.
What it means for us to be involved and what involvement have we had so far?
Matthew and Hannah have met with Neeraj Sharma, CEO and Cara Baumann, events manager at Daisy Chain and they have visited the facilities on offer at Stockton-on-Tees first-hand.
Silk has also purchased a Diamond Table at the Daisy Chain’s upcoming 20th Birthday Ball on Saturday 1st July 2023 and we are excited to attend this event and support Daisy Chain.
We are looking forward to working with and supporting Daisy Chain moving forward. Please see below a link to their website for further details on our Charity of the Year.
