Ian Kennerley
Partner & Barrister-at-Law

Teresa Davidson
Partner
Described by Chambers UK as a “forward thinking family lawyer with good commercial acumen”, Teresa Davidson heads up our Leeds office. Teresa also spends time in our North Yorkshire office and sees clients in our York and London consulting rooms.
Teresa has particular expertise in complex financial cases arising from divorce, including wealth protection, land and business matters. She is also noted for children issues, including domestic and international childcare arrangements. Chambers UK highlights her ability in matters involving civil partnerships and unmarried partners. Clients praise her approachability and sensitivity combined with outstanding legal skills.
A member of Resolution, which represents family law professionals, Teresa holds the organisation’s specialist accreditation in Advanced Financial Provision and Private Children Law.
Teresa has worked in family law for more than 20 years including heading up the family team for a top 20 law firm. She also has two years’ experience in an overseas jurisdiction.
“I worked with Teresa on my divorce, financial settlement and children matters. That period was so stressful, it was the worst thing I’ve ever been through – the children aspect especially. Teresa was compassionate but always honest. She explained the best and worst-case scenario and was very grounding. It was a minefield and she guided me through it all.
It was a very contentious case. But while she always gave me sound advice, she was also keen to focus on what I wanted and how I wanted to do things. She tried so many ways to avoid court. At my request, she exhausted every possibility beforehand. She was amazing.
Teresa’s attention to detail is just incredible – the way she retains information about the case and thinks about things. She spent time getting behind the psychology of working with my husband, finding a way of working with both him and me. While she took my case seriously, she also has a very good understanding of both cases – she could see both sides of the story to work out the best way forward.
Whilst the financial side was stressful, the emotional side of the children case was awful – it was a very dark time. In my mind, it was the worst thing that could be happening.
Teresa took it all so seriously. She kept me going, made me aware of might happen, and was very honest. She spent an awful lot of time with me, listening to me. She was always available, always had time to explain things. On one occasion, we spoke on a Sunday morning. We also spoke late at night. She always made it clear that if I ever needed her, she would be there for me.
I would definitely recommend Teresa to family and friends. I would tell them how committed she is, how thorough. Teresa is a completely safe pair of hands in unchartered territory.”
– Client testimonial (December 2020)
“Teresa has an excellent balance of both legal and personal understanding with very realistic advice. Her incredible grasp of detail helped me to cut through emotional feelings and stick to the facts of fighting my cause. In all of our meetings Teresa has been sensible, kind and sympathetic but cuts to the chase admirably, a great skill when dealing with sensitive issues.”

Based at Silk’s Leeds and North Yorkshire offices, Emily has been with the firm since 2011.
An experienced member of the team, Emily works closely with the partners on a range of complex cases and provides support to all fee earners across the full range of family law. This ensures clients have the benefit of the firm’s blended rates and active and regular communication on their case.
Emily has a keen interest in children cases, particularly those with more complex aspects involving safeguarding issues and fact finding.
Clients praise Emily’s incredible eye for detail as well as her calm, reassuring manner.
Having worked towards her qualification whilst working at Silk Family Law, Emily achieved Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) in February 2021. This means she is now qualified to carry out much of the work that solicitors do.
She regularly attends business development groups to extend her network of professional contacts.
“Emily is really calm; nothing phases her. I was working with Teresa Davidson on my divorce and children arrangements. On one occasion, things took a nosedive while Teresa was on holiday. I rang and spoke with Emily and she had to draft the court order in the space of a few hours in Teresa’s absence. She was completely competent, and came straight back to me with everything sorted.”
