Leading North East and Yorkshire family law firm, Silk Family Law, has promoted solicitor Katie Machin to the position of Associate.
Katie, who is based at the firm’s Newcastle office, advises on all aspects of divorce, including financial remedies and children work.
A former Gosforth High School student, Katie went on to achieve a first class history degree from Manchester University before returning to the North East to do her law conversion course at Northumbria University.
Katie’s training contract was undertaken at a Morpeth-based firm, where she worked on a mix of family and general litigation cases. Her experience both in the area of family law and in cases involving unmarried couples and conflicts between co-owners of property, means she is also sought out for her expertise in cohabitation disputes and property litigation. After qualifying in 2008, Katie worked at a London-based firm before returning again to her North East roots and taking up the position of solicitor at Silk Family Law in 2017.
Katie was selected to progress to associate at Silk for her meticulous eye for detail and for her dedication to robustly presenting her client’s cases and fighting their corner.
As founding trustee for four years of the charity Smart Works Newcastle, Katie was instrumental in establishing the regional branch of the national charity, which supports women to return to employment through confidence building and practical support back to work.
Katie said:
“I’m delighted to be promoted to Associate and continue progressing my career with one of the best family law firms in the North.
“Increasing access into the family law profession and raising aspirations is something I’m really passionate about. I want to inspire future lawyers and help people from all educational and socio-economic backgrounds to develop and achieve successful and fulfilling careers.”
Wayne Lynn, partner at Silk Family Law in Newcastle, said:
“Katie’s promotion is richly deserved and we are delighted to recognise her contribution as a senior member of the team at the Silk Family Law Newcastle office. Katie is an outstanding lawyer and since joining Silk in 2017, has shown dedication and commitment to delivering the highest standards of care and representation to her clients. We are delighted to support her in the next chapter of her career.”
