Silk Family Law has retained its position as one of the North East’s top family law firms with a top tier ranking in legal guide Chambers UK for the seventh year running.

Silk is one of only two family law firms in the Newcastle area ranked in the top tier of the latest edition of the legal bible.

The Chambers UK guide ranks law firms across the UK based on extensive research, alongside feedback from clients. The 2018 edition highlights the Silk team’s family law offering, describing the firm as: “A pre-eminent team at the forefront of the market in family law, with notable strength in dealing with high-value separation cases involving inheritance, liquidity, tax or trust issues. Especially noted for its experience in advising on cross-border matters.”

The guide quotes a client: “They let me have a peaceful mind. I know that if I’ve got an issue, someone is always there. They gave high-quality advice and I could trust that fully.”

Founded seven years ago by barrister Ian Kennerley and solicitors Kim Fellowes and Margaret Simpson, Silk has offices in Newcastle and North Yorkshire, and a client base spanning the North of England, Home Counties and London.  All four partners are recognised as “notable practitioners” in the 2018 edition of Chambers.

Ian Kennerley is recognised as “a highly regarded practitioner specialising in financial remedy cases. He continues to receive frequent instructions on high-value and complex financial remedy proceedings, and often advises on cases with cross-border elements.”

“Collaborative lawyer” Margaret Simpson is “highly rated for her expertise in complicated cross-border divorce and matrimonial finance work, particularly in relation to tax, company or inheritance issues. Sources describe her as ‘a very capable family lawyer who thrives on complex financial cases and produces excellent results for her clients.’”

The guide comments that partner Kim Fellowes’ “expertise lies in child support cases, with additional experience in financial remedy proceedings and cross-jurisdictional issues. Clients say: ‘She has got incredible knowledge base and goes the extra mile to get the best for you.’”

Fellow partner Wayne Lynn “offers expertise in both financial proceedings and child related matters. One client remarks that ‘he was absolutely excellent working with details and moving the process forward in court.’”

Kim Fellowes commented: “We are proud of our team who have contributed to Silk being named as one of only two family law firm ranked in the top tier for the Newcastle area in the latest edition of Chambers. This latest accolade comes shortly after Silk’s top tier ranking in Legal 500. Both guides base their findings on independent research, including feedback from our own clients, and from professional advisers who recommend us. We would like to thank everyone who commented so favourably.”
